Case Study #2

Classification: Highly regarded, prestigious private educational institution
Client Needs: A new, enterprise-wide, web-based software application to support all school administrative work from student interviews to finance to class scheduling to donations and more. The complete system required total data integrity and security.
Why EPS: The school needed to replace their DOS-based system with a new application. The client wanted Intranet and Extranet access to all applications. They needed a web-based integration application suite. They looked at several off-the-shelf ERP products designed specifically for education but determined that buying a packaged product would be too expensive. They were also fearful of excessive customization. Client chose EPS Custom Software Group to design a custom application to their exact and demanding requirements.
The Solution:

EPS also evaluated standard packaged solutions and independently determined that they would fail to handle the school's business processes properly. EPS analyzed the client's needs and determined that a solution based upon open standards, XML and Web Services was the optimum solution for the client's needs. The architecture allows for replacing parts and adding new modules without replacing the whole application. The system design ensures extensibility and maintainability for the future.

One of the system requirements is that all web forms have the look and feel of Windows® applications. EPS delivered on the promise even though there were many technical problems and the solution is now considered to be one to the ultimate extensions of web forms functionality.

The Result: The implementation of the new system is partially complete and is meeting the school's needs while integrating with the existing software. The system architecture allows for data transfers between the new and legacy systems in a way that meets the requirements of a system in transition without compromising data security and integrity.
Client Satisfaction: The client is very satisfied with EPS on this important project. Because of unforeseen circumstances the project time line has been exceeded slightly but the client is getting more than they originally contracted for. This strategic software system will serve them well for many, many years.
